When it comes to diet and nutrition books it feels like a new book comes out every single day. Each book has it’s own special take on how we should be eating and what we should be eating.
Some books say low-carb, others say low-fat. I’ve even read diet books that are nothing more than a list (hundreds of items long) of things you MUST AVOID to lose weight. This list even included soap and shampoo!
To help you cut through all the craziness and jumbled advice, here is my list of the top three diet books that are actually worth the time it takes to read them.
1. “Eat Stop Eat” Brad Pilon - Mostly this is just gratuitous self promotion, but it does fit in this of effective diet books. If you are interested in the scientific research behind the use of intermittent fasting for weight loss then you should find this book to be both up to date and accurate. Of the three diet books on this list, Eat Stop Eat offers the simplest and most convenient solution for long-term weight loss success.
2. “The End of Overeating” Dr. David A. Kessler. This diet book is an excellent review of the psychology of overeating, pointing out the similarities between drug addiction and addiction to high fat, high sugar and high salt foods. Kessler presents a compelling argument that many people are in fact struggling with an addiction rather than some form of nutrition or lack of exercise problem.
3. “Fast Food Nation” - Eric Schlosser This expose into the United States Fast food industry is not only eye opening but it will help you eat less. After reading about Schlosser’s visit to a slaughterhouse you will definitely re-think how often you eat fast food meals. While not a traditional diet book, this book definitely has it’s place in your personal diet-book library.
Honorable Mention: “Health Food Junkies” - Steven Bratman - This diet book has an amazing viewpoint on the whole health food craze that will probably make you think twice about following the latest fitness guru diet. If nothing else, this diet book will teach you to relax while you are following a diet and make sure you don’t get too obsessed with the rules and regulations of dieting.
